The author of the inclosed poem, conceiving himself as well
as the public, under the highest obligations to that prudent
and brave commander, Brigadier General Forbes, for relieving
this country from the calamities of a most barbarous Indian
war, intreats the favour of you to publish it in your next
paper . . .

Forbes! to thee the muse her tribute brings,
And fain would steal a minute while she sings.
